Tags
A tag is a colored label that you attach to a customer or to a lead. Tags let you group accounts your own way, next to the segments that the panel works out for you.
Go to Admin > CRM > Tags.
What a tag is
There is one flat list of tags. The same tag works on a customer and on a lead. Tags have no categories, no rules, and no automatic assignment.
Common uses:
- Mark your best accounts, such as
VIPorEnterprise. - Record where an account came from, such as
Ad CampaignorReferral. - Flag an account that needs attention, such as
Chase Payment.
Create a tag
- Go to Admin > CRM > Tags.
- Click Create Tag.
- Enter a Name. This field is required and it must be unique.
- Pick a Color.
- If the name needs more detail, write a Description.
- Click Create Tag.
A blank name gives Tag name is required. A name that already exists gives A tag with this name already exists.
The color control
Three things sit side by side:
- Eight preset swatches in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, and pink.
- A box for a hex value, such as
#3b82f6. - A dot that previews your choice.
Click a swatch, or type any hex value you want. The default is blue.
The tag list
The columns are Color, Name, Description, Customers, and Actions. The list is sorted by name.
Hover the color dot to read its hex value. A tag with no description reads -.
WARNING
The Customers column counts every place the tag is used. That count includes leads as well as customers, even though the heading says customers only.
Empty state: No tags yet and Create one.
Edit a tag
Click the pencil icon on the row. The form is the same one you used to create the tag. Click Save Changes.
A change to the name or the color reaches every customer and every lead that carries the tag.
Delete a tag
Click the bin icon on the row. The panel asks:
Delete Tag Are you sure you want to delete this tag? It will be removed from all customers and leads.
The dialog also shows the color and the name, so you can make sure that you picked the right one. Click Delete.
DANGER
A tag in use is deleted with everything else. The panel does not block the delete and does not warn you about the count. Look at the Customers column before you click.
Attach a tag
You cannot attach a tag from this page. Do it from the account:
- Open a customer at Admin > CRM > Customers, or a lead at Admin > CRM > Leads.
- Click Add Tag in the header.
- Click a tag in the list.
The tag appears at once. To take a tag off, click the x on its chip. Neither action asks you to confirm.
If every tag is already on the account, the list reads No tags available.
TIP
There is no bulk tagging.
Use a tag
A tag earns its keep as a filter.
- Admin > CRM > Customers has a Tag dropdown. Pick a tag to see only the customers that carry it.
- Admin > CRM > Leads has the same dropdown.
- Both lists show the tags in a Tags column.
- The customers CSV export has a Tags column with the names, separated by commas.
The Tags page itself does not list who carries a tag. To see them, go to the customers list and filter.
Tags and lead conversion
When a lead becomes a customer, its tags move to the new account. You do not need to tag the account again. Read Leads.
