Backups

Take a snapshot of your server, and put it back later.

Feature

The Backups tab appears when your host has backups switched on.

Use a backup to undo a bad update, a broken mod or a lost world.

The heading shows how many backups you have used out of your allowance, such as 3 of 5 backups used. Create Backup is greyed out once you reach it.

Taking a backup

  1. Click Create Backup.
  2. Type a name, or leave it blank to use the date and time.
  3. Leave Incremental off for a complete copy, or turn it on to save only what changed since your last backup.
  4. Turn on Include databases to save your databases with it. This option appears when the server has a database.
  5. Tick Lock backup (prevent deletion) to keep this one out of the automatic clear-out.
  6. Click Create Backup.

The backup runs in the background, so the server can stay up. A stopped server gives the cleanest copy of a world save.

If every backup slot is full, the panel names the oldest backup it will delete to make room. You have to tick that box before it will go ahead.

Databases are saved alongside your files rather than inside the same archive.

Your backups

Each row shows the name, the size, the age and the state: Completed, In Progress, Pending or Failed.

A backup taken with its databases carries an extra label reading Databases saved, Some databases missing, Databases failed, Databases skipped or Databases saving.

Four buttons sit at the end of a row.

ButtonAction
DownloadSaves the backup to your computer.
RestorePuts the backup back onto the server.
LockProtects the backup from deletion. Click again to unlock.
DeleteDeletes the backup. A locked backup cannot be deleted.

Download and Restore appear only once a backup has completed.

Stop the server before you restore

A restore replaces everything in the server folder, so every change since that backup goes, world saves included. Take a fresh backup before you restore an older one.

The panel does not stop the server for you, and Restore stays available while it runs. Writing over files the game is holding open corrupts the save. Stop the server, wait for the status to read Offline, then restore.

Choosing what goes in

Backup paths, below the list, decides which files a backup includes.

Your game comes with sensible defaults. They leave out the engine files, caches and logs that the install can fetch again.

Click Custom to set your own paths to include, paths to exclude and patterns to exclude. Click Reset to egg defaults to go back to the defaults for your game. Click Save to keep your change.
